A Little about Me...

I live in Kensington, Victoria with my 4 year old son: Owyn and a very energetic Scottie, called Jub Jub. I enjoy spending time with my family, studying, discovering new teaching ideas on Pinterest and volunteering my time for community homework clubs and other contributing educational organizations of similar ilk. I come from a long lineage of teachers. My Mother is a wonderful English teacher, and my Grandmother was also an inspirational and enthusiastic primary school  teacher.

In 2006 I completed a Bachelor of Arts through the University of Melbourne with a double major in Criminology and Sociology. This degree led to working with the Department of Justice on Judicial Education Programs. Deciding that primary school teaching was my passion, I then moved to Perth to study at Murdoch University.

Whilst studying in Perth, I immersed myself in educational environments such as the University of Western Australia working for the School of Engineering, and the Department of Treasury and Finance: developing training schemes.

Returning to Melbourne in 2011, I began my teaching rounds whilst continuing to work for the University of Melbourne as a student adviser for graduate arts programs. Finally, promoting to managing Admissions for a Faculty at the University granted me with quite a rise in workload and professional expectation.  However, my passion towards education continued and I began my Masters in Education with a specialisation in Gifted students learning and psychology. Completing this in 2014 with an 89% GPA meant that I was invited to apply for the Rhodes Trust Scholarship to study at Oxford University, UK. Unfortunately due to familial responsibilities I was not able to take up to offer and will continue with a research degree in 2015 on shore.

I am passionate about extending and contributing to educational research, in the areas of Gifted and Talented students. Of particular interest is the social and emotional concerns relating to these very unique students. In 2015 I hope to commence my PhD within the area of Learning Psychology for Gifted and Talented students with a focus on the very specific social and emotional risk factors these students encounter.

I greatly look forward to contributing to the research in this area, in the hope that we can strive to understand their coming of age  experiences and somehow enrich it as educators.
